Accolades & Awards

Our students, alumni and staff have done us proud, garnering numerous accolades for their capabilities, hard work and contributions to the community.


Our Students


SAF Young Leader Award

Information Technology student Koh En Yang won the prestigious Ministry of Defence’s SAF Young Leader Award for his excellent academic achievements and outstanding CCA performance. One of the 20 award winners, En Yang was chosen from a pool of 250 applicants.

Outstanding Contributions to Nursing and the Community

Nursing student Malcolm Chew Jia Rui from the School of Health Sciences won the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship Award and the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement in recognition of his contributions to nursing and the community. Malcolm serves as a member of the Singapore Nursing Chapter and contributes to community events for organisations such as the National Kidney Foundation. He also participated in Youth Expedition Projects, collaborated with GapYearSg to support youth pursuing unconventional paths, and served as a Mental Health Advocate for ThriveSg.

Healthcare Scholarships

Four School of Health Sciences students Teo Wen Kai Ryan, Nadia Bte Mohammad Roslan, Gou Rou Xuan, and Ang Jia Ling received Integrated Nursing Scholarships from the Ministry of Health for their diploma course. The scholarships were a recognition of their strong academic track records and passion to pursue careers in the healthcare industry.

Global Robotics Games Champion

School of Engineering students Quentin Yeo, Wong Le Yang and Chia De En won the Overall Championship in the Regular Tertiary category of the National Robotics Competition (NRC) 2023. They designed and constructed a robot capable of solving specific challenges in real-time. The team continued their winning streak at Global Robotics Games 2023, where they emerged as champions in the Tertiary category.

Tree-planting Robot at International Competition

An innovative tree-planting robot designed and constructed by School of Engineering students - Aung Myat Thu, Kendric Foo, Hafizuddin Arif and Leow Kar Lok - clinched them the third prize at Tsuyama Robot Contest 2023 (Robocon). This makes the NP team the first international team in the 28 years of the competition’s history to get on the podium. The annual competition was co-organised by the Tsuyama City Council and KOSEN National Institute of Technology in Tsuyama, Japan.

Poly FinTech100 API Hackathon Champion

Team Rare Fleur Industries, comprising Banking & Finance and Business Studies students, emerged the Overall Champion of Poly Fintech100 API Hackathon 2023. Team Rare Fleur Industries was one of eight School of Business & Accountancy teams representing NP. Competing in five categories, three of the NP teams topped the Decentralised Finance, InsurTech, and RegTech categories, which enabled them to advance to the grand championship at Singapore FinTech Festival 2023, an annual event that attracts global FinTech talent.

National Youth Entrepreneurship Award

Business Studies student Lingesh Sachuvanantham from the School of Business & Accountancy won the Gold award in the Post-Secondary Education Institutes category of the National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards 2023, an annual event organised by Action Community for Entrepreneurship to recognise youths who have contributed to the Singapore startup ecosystem. Lingesh is the co-founder of Kloss, a startup that seeks to eliminate conventional single-use plastic dental floss. Kloss’s product is an eco-friendly alternative – the Reusable Dental Flosser – which is made from renewable resources such as cornstarch and sugar.

Home Balcony Landscape Design Winner

A five-member team from the School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology won the ‘Summer in Bloom’ Home Balcony Landscape Design 2023 Competition. The win gave them the opportunity to work with industry practitioners for six weeks. The competition masterpieces set the record for ‘The Largest Home Balcony Landscape’ in the Singapore Book of Records.

International Building Design

A team of students and alumni from the School of Design & Environment (DE) won the second prize at the International Building Design Competition during International Built Environment Week. The competition challenged participants to develop an innovative, sustainable, and in-demand proposal that is holistic and resilient in three key areas: Integrated Planning and Design, Sustainable Urban System, and Advanced Manufacturing & Assembly. The team’s design solution addressed Singapore’s land scarcity and farming limitations, featuring a high-tech vertical farming structure and sustainable elements that also took into consideration heritage preservation.

President’s Scout Award

Community Development student Carissa Wong from the School of Humanities & Social Sciences received the prestigious President’s Scout Award, which recognises outstanding Venture Scouts aged 16-18. Carissa began her scouting journey in Secondary 1 and has made a positive impact on the community through projects such as the ‘Do Something Good for the Elderly’ initiative to raise funds and deliver care packages to seniors during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Singapore Food Manufacturing Association Open Innovation Challenge Winners

It was a double win for NP at the Singapore Food Manufacturing Association Open Innovation Challenge 2023! A team from the School of Engineering (SOE) and the School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology (LSCT) clinched the first prize in the competition while another team of SOE students came in second. Organised by Enterprise Singapore, the hackathon focused on shaping the future of food manufacturing by addressing challenges such as rising costs, process inefficiency, and human capital development for SMEs in the food industry.

Singapore MICE Challenge

A team of Tourism & Resort Management students clinched the third prize at Singapore MICE Challenge 2023 by impressing judges with their ‘Next Generation Immersive Event Concept @ Orchard’, which focused on digitalisation, design thinking, and sustainability.

National Day Pride

NP students showcased their brilliant works on a national stage at National Day Parade (NDP) 2023. A group of Film, Sound & Video students from the School of Film & Media Studies produced two NDP videos in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, while a Media Post-Production student Hussein Haiqal Bin Riduan worked as an in-house animator for NDP 2023.

FSV students Cherish Chong Xuan Li, Glenda Quek Si Jie, Yee Shin Mun and Ng Le Xuan captured behind-the-scenes footage and edited it for display on the screens at the Padang.


Crowbar Awards

Students from the School of Film & Media Studies won two Bronze awards at the Crowbar Awards 2023 for their films ‘Russian Doll’ (Digital/Innovation category) and ‘The Recipe’ (Film & Photography category). Organised by the Association of Advertising and Marketing Singapore, The Crowbar Awards is one of the most prestigious competitions for young creatives in Asia Pacific.

Scholastic Achievements

Several of our alumni went on to receive prestigious scholarships for their further studies.  Here are some examples:

Two of our alumni were awarded the Public Service Commission Scholarship. Environmental & Water Technology graduate Teo Chun Yi from the School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology (LSCT) is studying Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) while Engineering Science (ES) graduate Saffron Salmah Yen Lim from the School of Engineering (SOE) is studying Data Science & Artificial Intelligence at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Aerospace Engineering graduate Daniel David from SOE was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces Engineering Scholarship by the Ministry of Defence. He is pursuing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at NTU.

ES graduate Sarah Chow Wan Xuan from SOE, who is studying Computer Engineering at NUS, clinched the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) Scholarship.

International Trade & Business graduate Kishor Chidambaranathan from the School of Business & Accountancy (BA) was awarded the Enterprise Singapore Global Executive Scholarship (Local) and will pursue a degree in Economics at NUS.

Design graduate Tay Yi Shan from the School of Design & Environment (DE) received DesignSingapore Council’s DesignSingapore Scholarship and is furthering her studies in User Experience Design at the University of the Arts London.

21 alumni from the School of Health Sciences (HS), School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HMS), LSCT, and BA received Healthcare Scholarship Awards from the Ministry of Health Holdings Pte Ltd. They will pursue degree courses in different disciplines in the various universities.  

Arts Business Management alumna Lyn Tay from HMS was selected for the distinguished Schwarzman Scholars graduate fellowship programme, a one-year master’s in global affairs at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Real Estate Business alumnus Choi Ming Hong received the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State. He has been admitted into the Master of Real Estate degree program at Harvard University.

Off to Medical School

Four nursing graduates, Ryan Krishnan, A. Helena Catherine, Jolene Tan, and Vanessa Natalia Sutristio, secured coveted spots at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Clinching Gold at WorldSkills

Automation & Mechatronic Systems graduates Mack Kai Hin and Ethan Ong from the School of Engineering clinched a Gold award in the mechatronics category at the 2023 WorldSkills ASEAN competition. A biennial event that attracts participants from across Southeast Asia, the competition was a test of expertise in handling industrial equipment, programming equipment control systems, and engineering human-machine interfaces.

Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award

School of Engineering alumni Loo Zhi Herng Reginald and Kaung Zin Thu won the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award for developing a cutting-edge autonomous cleaning robot that can navigate independently, identify cleaning targets, and perform cleaning tasks without any human intervention. The Award recognises full-time polytechnic students who have completed Interactive Digital Media projects that contribute to the Smart Nation vision of harnessing technology to improve the lives of citizens, create more opportunities, and build stronger communities.

Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia

Three NP alumni made it to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2023 list. Film, Sound & Video graduate Kevin Ng from the School of Film & Media Studies founded Vicinity Studio, a video content agency that crafts compelling narratives for government and social entities. Aerospace Electronics graduate Denzel Lee from the School of Engineering co-founded Datature, which enables individuals without coding knowledge to build machine learning applications. And International Business* graduate Christopher Choo from the School of Business & Accountancy co-founded fintech startup Qashier to offer SMEs integrated payment solutions.

Design Excellence

NP Design graduates from the School of Design & Environment won three awards at the Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA). Syazwina bte A Rahman received a Gold award in the Interior Design category and will represent Singapore at AYDA in 2025. Alumna Nurin Duyanah Bte Awaludin was awarded a Bronze award in the same category, while alumna Delace Koh received the Best Green Innovation Award.

SingHealth Nursing Award

Nursing graduate Elvira Phang received the SingHealth Nursing Award in the Outstanding Student Nurse category at SingHealth Nurses’ Day Celebration 2023. She now works as a locum nurse with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Reusable Bottle for NEWater

A team of School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology (LSCT) alumni came in second in the NEWater Packaging category of the PUB Splash Lab Competition 2023 organised by PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. The trio developed a reusable bottle to address the challenge of revamping NEWater’s single-use plastic bottle packaging. They 3D-printed their innovative prototype, which was user-friendly, attractive and greener.

Design Solution to Help the Elderly

Design diploma alumna Yap Shu Min won a Gold award at the Assistive & Rehabilitation Technologies Student Innovation Challenge (ARTSIC) for her esign innovation that helps the elderly walk more comfortably and reduces knee aches.

Young Achiever Award

Mass Communication alumna Shareefa Aminah Abdul Shariff, or Shazza to her fans, clinched the prestigious Jauhari Harapan (Young Achiever) Berita Harian Award, which recognises the outstanding accomplishments of individuals under 30. Just two years after graduating from the School of Film & Media Studies, she has made waves, with over 1.5 million Spotify streams. Her success has extended to being featured on a Times Square billboard in New York, as part of Spotify's equal rights in music and women's empowerment campaign.

Innovation Challenge Winner

NP's Centre for Environmental Sustainability emerged as one of eight winners at the Jurong Lake District Innovation Challenge. NP’s Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CfES) team (previously known as Environmental & Water Technology Centre of Innovation or EWTCOI) was awarded a $50,000 cash prize for an innovative Human Thermal Comfort Controller that automatically adjusts the air temperature to deliver thermal comfort based on environmental factors, including convection, evaporation, and radiation, unlike conventional thermostats. The system will be piloted in Ng Teng Fong Hospital's rehabilitation centre to drive energy savings while ensuring the comfort of patients.

Grooming Future Designers

Design Course Chair Alexis Chua from the School of Design & Environment was named Best Mentor and Best Supporting Coordinator at the Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards 2023/2024. NP was also honoured with the title of Best Education Institution.

Enabling Startup Success

At the prestigious Action Community for Entrepreneurship Singapore (ACE.SG) Start-Up Awards, NP’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) Office, The Sandbox, clinched the ACE Startup Ecosystem Enabler award, which recognises stakeholders in the startup ecosystem, including investors, innovators, unicorn founders, and community builders. The win is a testament to NP’s programmes, which help foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and resilience to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit in students and alumni.

Putting Robots on Patrol

School of Engineering staff Neo Boon Kee, Hui Tin Fat, Li Yinbei, Yu Yang, Ng Kwek Khen, Li Yan, and Ong Wei Kok won the Bronze Award at the 2023 MOE Innergy Awards for developing a novel, autonomous AI-enabled patrol robot that has been deployed at the Jurong Lake Gardens in collaboration with the National Parks Board (NParks). Delivering concierge services and surveillance, the robot is the first of its kind to be deployed in a national park. It has saved costs, reduced manpower needs, and enhanced incident management.

PST Award Winner

School of Business & Accountancy lecturer Willie Soh received the PST Exemplary SkillsFuture @ Public Service Award. The PST Awards recognise public officers and agencies for excellence in their work and organisational practices.

Honoured by NTU Top Grad

School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology lecturer Tai Min Hooi was recognised for his inspirational teaching with a $5,000 cash grant established in his honour when NP alumnus and recent Nanyang Technological University (NTU) graduate Lim Kai Peng won NTU’s prestigious Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award. The award recognises the accomplishments of top graduates and gives them the opportunity to honour university faculty members and teachers from their junior college, polytechnic, or equivalent institution.
